1. Matcho Cafe
As you set foot into this cafe, you’ll notice its pink walls and potted plants at every corner of the cafe. With its pink and green theme, Matcho Cafe is considered one of the most Instagrammable cafes in Penang!
Matcho Cafe also has a small corner with an egg-shaped rattan swing chair and a standing mirror, so don’t forget to check out that corner to get your Instagrammable pictures!
I’ve tried their Rose Pancakes (RM 20 / USD 4.45), they are rose-flavoured pancakes, served with coconut ice cream and rose cream, topped with strawberries and pistachios.
This dessert is one of their signatures and I highly recommend it if you’re a pancake lover!

2. Bean Sprout Cafe
Bean Sprout Cafe is one of my favourite cafes and is one of the best coffee shops in Penang! From its ambience to its food, there is nothing to dislike about this cafe!
The upstairs section has the best view as it is located opposite the Kuan Ying Teng temple and some food stalls. Hence, you’ll be able to see the beautiful architecture of the temple as well as locals enjoying Penang food!
It is suggested to visit this cafe early in the morning as it would be wonderful to enjoy the morning breeze with a hot cup of coffee.
I tried their Hot Irish Latte (RM14/USD 3.11) and Avocado Toast 3 Ways (RM18.50/USD 4.11).
The coffee tastes exactly like Irish coffee, but without alcohol, and is topped with some cinnamon powder.
As for the toast, it comes with 3 slices with 3 different flavours (Smoked Salmon, Bacon & Eggs and Guacamole) which makes it worth your money!

3. The Alley
As its name suggests, The Alley is a cafe located in a small alley which makes it a hidden cafe in Penang.
The Alley gives off a retro vibe, with its gaming machine, cool photo frames and tables with steel tops. Besides taking aesthetic pictures for your gram, be sure to order their churros as it is a must-try item in this cafe!
Their churros (RM12/USD2.67) comes with 8 sticks and are dusted with cinnamon sugar. You can choose your toppings such as oreo crumbs or nuts along with a dip of your choice (chocolate, nutella, salted caramel, caramel, cinnamon).

4. Ludwig Softserve
Looking for an Instagrammable halal cafe in Penang? Then, Ludwig Sofserve is definitely your go-to!
This cafe is cosy, aesthetic and fun as there are many Instagrammable spots for you to take pictures, inside and outside of the cafe.
Personally, I have tried their signature Pandan Coconut Gula Apong Waffle (RM23/USD5.11) and it is one of the best waffles I’ve ever tried! These waffles are pandan flavoured, topped with shredded coconut, Sarawak palm sugar and a soft serve of your choice.
Typically, there are 4 soft-serve flavours that you can choose to enjoy on its own as well, which are Fresh Raspberry, Chocolate Hazelnut, Cereal Milk and Tiramisu.
Do take note that their soft serve flavours change daily and they introduce new flavours from time to time.

5. Mangga at The Blue Mansion
Located beside the iconic Blue Mansion, Mangga is a relatively new cafe in Penang. This cafe was named Mangga, which translates to mango, as it is located underneath a big old mango tree.
This cafe is considered one of the instagrammable cafes in Penang as you can take pictures near the mansion, at the entrance of the cafe and underneath the big mango tree!
There are many main dishes, drinks and desserts to choose from. I’ve tried their unique Mangga’s Tofu Cheesecake (RM28/USD6.15), served with a brown sugar glaze which melts in your mouth! Recommended to try it as it is their signature dessert.

6. P.66
P.66 is a new cafe in Penang, which is actually hidden in a stationery shop, making it another fun hidden cafe in Penang to add to your cafe-hopping list!
In this store, you will find a variety of stationery such as art supplies, notebooks, cute stickers and more.
This is also the best Instagrammable spot for you to take pictures, especially if you like the cute stationery shop aesthetic!
As you walk deeper into the store, they have a cosy cafe with around 5-6 tables for you to dine in.
Their menu is pretty simple, with a small selection of breakfast food, sandwiches, pasta and drinks. However, they do have speciality drinks that you should try!
I had the Dirty Matcha Latte (RM18/USD3.95) which is a combination of espresso and matcha. This drink had a good balance between both flavours and wasn’t too sweet, which I enjoyed.
Besides this drink, you can also try their other specials such as Peanut Biscoff Latte and Espresso Tonic.

7. Wheeler’s
Wheeler’s is known as the best cafe in Georgetown, Penang and is both, the locals and tourists’ favourite!
They have a section upstairs which is very Instagrammable, with their potted plants and brick white walls. Their food and drinks are not only Instagrammable but are also unique and of high quality.
If you are looking for something unique, do try their Espresso Chicken (RM28.90/USD6.35) which is a grilled chicken, served with a creamy espresso sauce. It comes with sauteed vegetables and a layer of mashed potatoes.
Wheeler’s must-try dish is their signature Truffle Spaghetti Carbonara (RM28.90/USD6.35) which is a creamy carbonara using white truffle oil, topped with bacon, chicken slices and mushrooms. It is topped with an egg yolk, which mixes perfectly with the flavours of the carbonara.

8. Slow Coffee Person
Slow Coffee Person is probably the coziest cafe in Penang that I’ve ever been to!
It’s underrated, probably because not many people know about its existence. Its doors are closed and from afar, the cafe looks like a regular Georgetown heritage house. To enter the cafe, you’ll have to knock on the door and you’ll be welcomed by a very friendly barista.
Also, you can tell that the barista is pretty passionate about coffee brewing as he has many coffee brewing tools lined up at the counter for you to get curious about!
This little cafe can accommodate only a few visitors at a time as it has three tables and a cute little bar by the window, with a quiet view of the town.
I got to try their iced latte for RM13 (USD2.82) and their Caliebaut chocolate milk was RM14 (USD 3.03). They do serve baked goods but it changes daily, so it’s best to check with their staff.
Overall, if you’re feeling like you’re in your main character era, this place is so cute to spend some alone time at!

9. Rumah Kacha
Rumah Kacha, which translates to “Glass House” is beautiful, elegant and considered one of the most Instagrammable cafes in Penang!
If you go during the day, the natural sunlight will elevate your pictures while during the night, it is lighted up quite nicely!
This cafe serves a fusion of Western and Asian food. Amongst the food you can try would be their Chicken Rendang Pasta (RM25/USD5.49) which uses fettuccine and baked chicken, cooked with its creamy rendang sauce.

10. Utoo Boho Cafe
Utoo Boho Cafe is a unique cafe in Penang, with a Bohemian-style theme going on. This cafe was crowned the winner for the category of Best Cafe Design, during the Malaysia Atap Design Awards 2022.
This entire cafe is super Instagrammable, with its beautiful interior. However, it is recommended that you grab a spot at the boho tents for the best pictures!
As for its menu, there is a plethora of food, ranging from mains, desserts and specialty drinks. Do try their signature Caneles (3 for RM25/USD5.41), which are available in 3 flavours: Matcha, Espresso and Vanilla!

11. Kopi Hutan
Kopi Hutan, which translates to Jungle Coffee, is a cafe located in a jungle at Penang Hill. To get to this cafe, you can activate your adventurous mode by hiking up the hill (which is approximately a 2km walk) or by simply taking a buggy.
Kopi Hutan is known as the highest cafe in Penang, being 730 metres above sea level. If you’re looking for the greenery vibe, this is the cafe to go to for best pictures!
Their signature Kopi Hutan (RM8/USD1.76) per cup is a crowd favourite! Pair your coffee with their unique cake slices such as the Basil Lime Mousse Cake, Maple Walnut Cheesecake or even the local Ondeh-Ondeh Cake which are all priced at RM15/USD3.30.

12. Pik Nik
With an all-pink theme going, there is no doubt that Pik Nik is one of the Instagrammable cafes in Penang! From its walls to its furniture, everything is pink and is perfect for pink lovers!
They also have cute donut pillows for you to pose with while taking your #OOTDs.
Pik Nik are famous for their waffles, both sweet and savoury! Salmon lovers, do try their Aburi Salmon Waffles (RM18/USD3.90) which consists of waffles with smoked salmon and scrambled egg.

13. China House
Did you know that China House is the longest cafe in Penang? Yes, you heard that right! It stretches across 2 streets: Beach Street and Victoria Street.
This cafe is unique as every table comes with a mahjong paper and glass of crayons, for you to unleash your creative side while enjoying their cakes! They also have games such as Jenga, which is great to play with your group of friends.
At night, China House opens up a section of their cafe whereby you get to enjoy live music by a local band, while sipping on cocktails as they serve alcohol at night as well.
China House has over 30 choices of cakes for you to enjoy; my favourite is definitely one of their bestsellers which is the Tiramisu Cake with Alcohol (RM23/USD 4.98). Do note that their cake slices are huge, and one slice can be shared among 2-3 people.

14. Norm Micro Roastery
With its high ceiling, tall trees and pebble stone flooring, Norm Micro Roastery is an aesthetic cafe with great vibes!
This cafe is great to visit for brunch, and there are many fancy and unique dishes served here. For instance, dishes like Prawn and Pumpkin Risotto (RM38/USD8.23) and Smoked Chili Jam Scrambled Eggs (RM26/USD5.63) are dishes that you would rarely find at a cafe!
I’ve personally tried their Slow-Cooked Pork Ragout Pasta and Spicy Pomodoro (RM32/USD6.93) which was amazing! As a person who can’t handle very spicy food, this pasta had the perfect level of spice for me and was super flavourful.
If you want to go for fancy food but with affordable prices, Norm Micro Roastery is your cafe to go!

15. Narrow Marrow
With its wooden flooring and tables, Narrow Marrow gives off a rustic vibe and is the perfect place for tea time!
This cafe is widely known for its decadent Tiramisu, with multiple flavours to choose from, such as Dirty Bourbon Tiramisu, Dirty Chai Tiramisu (Non-Alcohol) and Matcha Malibu Tiramisu.
I have tried their basic tiramisu cake, which is the Espresso Kahlua Tiramisu (RM18/USD3.90) which had the perfect balance between the sweetness of the tiramisu and bitterness of the espresso and alcohol.
Pair your tiramisu with any of their drinks such as the Flat White (RM12/USD2.60) or Dirty Chai (RM15/USD3.25).

16. Ome by Spacebar Coffee
Ome by Spacebar Coffee is a small and cosy cafe located at a small alley. At the entrance, you will be greeted by a beautiful vine draping over the roof.
There is also a colourful mural next to the entrance. These two spots are great to take your Instagram pictures!
This cafe has the best coffee in Penang, in my opinion! They have everything ranging from Today’s Brew (which changes daily), Hand Brew (pour over or aeropress), milk coffee, white coffee and more!
If you don’t enjoy coffee as much, do try their Chocolate (RM13/USD2.82) which comes in both iced and hot options. Ome’s Chocolate is super rich as it consists of 65% Valrhona Chocolate.

17. Pace Coffee
If you’re looking for an aesthetic cafe in Penang that is bright with some warm woody furnishes that’ll make your coffee photos look great, Pace Coffee is your go-to cafe.
There’s also a really cute outdoor area, decorated with plants and a bench, right at the entrance of the cafe where you can take some cool Instagram worthy photos!
I got to try the hot latte for RM10 (USD2.17) and they served some biscotti with it! They also have your staple breakfast and brunch meals like the big breakfast, salad, poke bowls and different kinds of toast!
